Hello My Confident Dolls,
So about a week ago, I was thinking of new topics to feature on the blog and I came up with Fashionista Friday, A Fashion Diva With Ambition. We all love fashion as well as want to be inspired by it. I wanted to feature females doing their thing, being the independent Queen they are while being fashionable doing it. I follow so many fashion divas and get inspired by them all, it was time I do something for them each and every Friday so we can learn a few tips and tricks. It's nothing like getting inspired by someone to create YOUR OWN STYLE!
The first person I thought of was Ms Celia Ayala aka @ladyshears on Instagram. I've been following this beauty for over a year and her style is impeccable. It doesn't matter what she puts on from dresses to skirts to even a simple Tshirt and jeans, she kills it every time. She isn't your typical size or what society would say is not the perfect size 2 but it doesn't stop her from being FASHIONABLE and wearing what she wants to wear. She is CONFIDENT in her skin and embraces her body and most of all her curves. I love how she isn't afraid to express her style and I love how confident she is. I wanted to know what inspired her style, what are her favorite fashion pieces, her ideas on fashion and more. When I reached out to Celia for the interview, she gladly said yes and took time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for me.
Celia is 27 years old from New York and although she always had CONFIDENCE, she truly discovered the power in herself as a woman in the past recent couple of years in how to present herself. She's has been a licensed cosmetologist for a little over a decade but developed a passion for artistry very young in life. As a colorist dealing with all kinds of hair textures, lengths and unique hair colors, she describes it to be like designing an outfit with each client at a time. She explains that you have to know what goes with what and what looks good on who. But it all starts with a blank bare canvas and having the creativity to see that bigger picture. What she loves more about her career is how it easily ties into the fashion world. At work for her the necessary all black uniform is something she incorporates in her daily life both in and out of the salon as well. She plays with mixing black textures and fabrics, fur and leather, metal and spike accents stating she's pretty edgy. She love that no matter the current trend all black is timeless.
It can be bold, dressed up or down for day and evening. She also have another side of complete bright colors, mixed patterns and then there's the side of neutrals khakis, olives, blush tones and more claiming she is the one to wear it all! Fashion rules never scared her as long as she doesn't look foolish which she never does. She will wear white in the winter and crop tops against all stereotypes. But she believe in making sure nothing is see through or too clingy. Other than that She will say go for whatever YOU feel sexy in! Everyone who knows her knows her absolute go to favorite items which she can't live without is a great pair of nude pumps or black leather leggings. Not all leather but she own at least 30 pair with tuxedo stripes or leather piping and knee patches. She think they both make a plain outfit chic and can be worn any season any time of day.
Currently her favorite place to shop is Nordstrom Rack! She had a bit of an obsession with kimonos this summer and they kept her wearing a few not everyone had. They always carry great blouses and tunic tops. She shop everywhere from Macys to forever 21 to HM and a ton online, those would include city chic, asos, boohoo, simply be and tons of boutiques. She does have a weird rule about not repeating anything. Even before social media was huge she could mix and match a few items and make 75 new creative outfits but she just preferred not being seen in the same outfit twice. Celia feels there were too many great clothes in her closet and in life to not try it all. I AGREE!!!
She is so looking forward to fall because she love love layers and big bags and scarves. Her favorite morning is a cool crisp one with enough sun for her oversized shades and enough breeze for her oversized cardigan, great fitting jeans, flowy or fitted top, a scarf wrapped figure eight around her neck, some type of boot and a large bag resting on her forearm. LOVE!!!! She also mentioned that her fall time perfume are amber and vanilla notes. Can you tell Fall in NYC is her absolute favorite?
When girls ask her how she know things go together or how could they wear something, she offer her little tip/secret. If she just gotten a specific piece she want to make the focus of her outfit she run to google or Pinterest and search the item in outfits. WHAT AN AMAZING TIP!!!! For instance 'black leather skater skirt' she would enter the exact piece and add 'outfit ideas' to the end. After going through 100 pics she usually see her interpretation of how it's meant to be worn right but it's nice to add your twist to it. My Confident Dolls always make sure IT IS YOUR STYLE!!!! She may not like the chunky shoe with the outfit and opt for something her style. As well see a combination she never even thought of. The key to personal style is just that - YOUR PERSONALITY!! Don't get stuck trying to wear the peplum dress if you don't think you'll be confident in it all night. Instead break it up into a skirt and top, add a belt or go for a different look all together if you feel it isn't working. Sometimes she think a style may play out and then she's in her mirror like "oh hell no!" 60 try ons later she may have figured something out.
Sounds like a lot of drama over herself but YOU ARE YOUR WALKING ADVERTISEMENT! . She loves any reason to dress up and usually don't step out looking like she didn't think she was going to be seen lol because it happens and you can't find excuses once you're caught looking busted. But between long salon hours, juggling home life and finding time on the weekends she find any excuse to be cute and done up. She probably balance it all by always planning places to go out after work with friends or just hanging out with her boyfriend. She does feel she is constantly shopping for that next outfit idea. She get made fun of because while she's out she will be like "oh this would be great for a BBQ in the summer" but the rolling eyes of those around her are saying "you know you're not going to no damn BBQ you're just buying clothes to buy them and you don't need them". GUILTY!!! That sounds like most of us, I know I have things in my closet with tags on them that I brought from last year.
It's probably not the best advice that she buy pieces to have them because she know eventually she will need them when she's mid war with her wardrobe. She love that her partner is equally goal oriented, extremely busy yet still finds time to be stylish like herself. Hell that's what caught our eye discovering each other on IG. We both think it's important to look our best, it helps you feel your best which will ultimately make you perform your best. What better CONFIDENCE boost than knowing you're looking the part for whatever you're trying to conquer that day! She would say CONFIDENCE is a major part of her brand, and that's a FACT! She promotes beauty and style so her clients has to see apparent beauty and style. But she have to be CONFIDENT enough to deliver exactly what she say she's going to provide for the client. So her CONFIDENCE stems from the reward she feel of being great at what she does consistently.
Overall CONFIDENCE IS ME because I own it and believe it and I don't think anyone can take away from another persons CONFIDENCE. If you have it you won't be bothered by people who feel differently towards you and if you don't have it yet that's ok too, at some point you will address those flaws and then learn how to dress those flaws says Celia on why CONFIDENCE is her.
My Confident Dolls wear what it is you want to wear, DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF! Yes they may be people talking or even judging you and it's ok. I've learned that you have to live your life for you and do the things that you want to do to be HAPPY. Don't tell yourself "I won't look good in it or Iam too big to wear anything like that", how would you know if you haven't even tried to wear it? Stop with the excuses and the negative thinking. WEAR WHAT YOU WANT TO WEAR AND LOOK GOOD WHILE DOING SO. Celia really shared with us her favorite pieces to what she loves to wear, wear she shops, everything and more to give you the CONFIDENCE you want more so need. Be Confident, BE YOURSELF, Be the fashionable diva I know you are capable of being and keep making your dreams a reality.
