Today’s fashionista is 22 year-old Qwacian Gregory. Born and raised in Jamaica, this aspiring radio host has a keen eye for fashion. With the streets of New York as her runway, Qwacian describes her style as simple, versatile, comfortable and chic. She loves to play with different looks, while staying true to her own personal style. She says,
“I believe that less is more and shoes can make or break an outfit.”
What do you love about fashion?
Fashion is always changing and it is fun and that’s what I love about it!
Do you do anything specifically to incorporate your personal style into your career?
Working in radio it’s a field where I never have to get dressed …ever! But I always do, I feel like when you look good you feel good and when you feel good work gets done better! Everyone at my job knows me for my fashion sense especially in an office where everyone is mostly just chilling (dressing wise), so as a result of my fashion sense I’ve been able to actually get a style segment on the radio show I work for so I’m pretty excited for that! Also, seeing that my personal style is simple and versatile I think those are two key things in my field, you never want to be the same as a host because then the listener gets bored and you always have to keep things simple to keep the audience engaged.
“When you look good you feel good…”
How do you manage everything in your life (school, job, etc.), and still find the time to be fashionable?
I don’t! Just kidding, like I said my style is simple so seeing that I have to be up at 4am every morning for work I usually just take a couple simple pieces and one statement piece and go with that and it just somehow works out. That one statement piece brings everything together and just makes everything POP! On the mornings that I don’t feel like even wearing clothes, I just wear confidence more than ever with whatever dressed down outfit I’m wearing that day and it always works
“On the morning that I don’t feel like even wearing clothes, I just wear confidence more than ever…”
What is your favorite fashion trend? Why?
My favorite fashion trend…hmmm, I don’t know that’s a tough one… I think I just love the colors of each season for example burgundy in the winter and royal blue in the summer, its always fun to play around with colors each season.
How do you feel about “fashion rules”?i.e. Don’t wear white after labor day etc.
Honestly, that’s probably the only fashion rule I know, and I wear white after labor day (during fall) just not in winter cause it just doesn’t make sense.
What is your favorite fashion item? Why?
BLAZERS! I love Blazers! Blazers are my favorite things ever!! A good blazer will make an outfit look so much better and make you look like you have a purpose in life. Blazers also can dress up ANY outfit, and a dope blazer works well as a statement piece. I have a mini collection of blazers, and in the summer my favorite item is anything that flows like a long flowy dress or a long flowy shirt, they always add some drama to a look and always make people turn their heads. A good strappy heel always makes a casual outfit pop!! Also, in the winter a GOOD wool coat and wool hat OMG! You’ll always look great in that combo even on a dressed down day, I’m telling you these staple pieces are important.
What item do you look forward to wearing this summer?
In the summer I love my flowy maxi dresses! Not the plain boring maxis either, I’m talking [about] the beautiful ones maybe with a print or two but that’s what I’m looking forward to wearing and strappy heels.
“Blazers also can dress up ANY outfit”
Where do you shop?
I shop at Zara and H&M mostly and some online boutiques like Mystique and Necessary Clothing, but I’m always in H&M cause I feel like they have some great reasonably priced stuff that can look however you want it to and Zara is just Zara – plus I worked there.
What advice do you give to someone who is trying to find their personal sense of style?
Don’t try to be anyone else, always stay true to yourself and find clothes that work well with your body, always keep that in mind. Also confidence is everything so if you don’t believe in your style/outfit neither will we.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to be a news anchor, since I can remember that has been my dream job and now I'm turning a dream into a goal and soon to reality.
“Confidence is everything, so if you don’t believe in your style/outfit neither will we.”
We asked Qwacian to finish this sentence,Confidence is Me because…. She responded:
“Confidence is Me because it’s my most valuable asset.”
And we couldn’t agree more! Qwacian I wish you nothing but the BEST My Confident Fashionista.
