Curvy, Confident & Crop Tops!!!

The Trend: Crop Tops

We’ve seen them multiple times on the New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 runways, and now that Spring is here, it’s time we embrace this trend: Crop Tops! Let’s address the fact that wearing a crop top for anyone can be a bit intimidating, but it seems as though the skepticism rises when you are a plus-sized woman. Everyone woman should be able to embrace this season’s trend and NOTHING should hinder that. My Confident Dolls it is time to show up and show out with the two C’s: Confidence and a Crop Top.

It is important to wear what compliments not only your figure but your sense of style as well. While crop tops are known to display the midriff area, there is not a rule that says you have to wear it that way. Crop tops are actually more versatile than many think. Now if you are trying to wear a crop top for the first time it is best to start out with a boxy crop top. The best part about a boxy crop top is that it doesn’t cling, which makes it a great novice crop top. Fashion blogger, Mo Handahu says that boxy crop tops are best paired with skinny jeans for a sleek look and if you want a more relaxed feel, you can match them with a pair of boyfriend jeans.

Do not limit yourself to the boxy crop top; I encourage you to try out a closely fitted crop top as well. There is no reason you should feel ashamed of you curves, rock any and every crop top! Closely fitted crop tops look best with a pair of high-waisted jeans, a high-waisted pencil skirt, and even a midi scuba skirt (for my girly Dolls). If you really want to be daring, pair a crop top with a pair of high waist trousers, such as palazzo pants. If in any event you may need to add a little more coverage (due to the occasion, weather, etc.), you may add a topper to minimize exposure. This includes but is not limited to a blazer, leather jacket, kimono, and even a button up shirt. You have the freedom to style it how you see fit.

Ladies, it is important to know that the hottest trends in New York Fashion Week do not exclude you. It is okay to feel a bit skeptical about trying something new, but I encourage you to try it! For years plus-sized women have limited their shopping horizons because society has created these imaginary rules of what is acceptable for people to wear. Girl you rock that crop top and remember that you can have fun with it. As long as you know what compliments you and you can walk down the street, look at your reflection in the storefront window and say “Damn I Did That!!!” then that is all that maters.  Always remember Confidence Is You!
