Exactly 2 Weeks ago I turned one of my many ideas into a dream come true with the help of Simply YOUnique Productions which is an event planning business owned by my best friend Lakarra Pope and her mother Tara Pope . I came up with this idea being on the phone with Lakarra one night in the midst of her telling me she's coming to New York for a week and how much she really wants to start this event planning business. I love my best friend and anything she dreams of I will be right there to support her and help her make it come true. Before we hung up the phone we decided for me to have a brunch for Confidence Is You and she will set it up.

I didn't want just a regular brunch, I wanted a brunch where women would come together as one. I wanted us to embrace the Queen in ourselves as well as the Queen in others. I wanted it to be special, uplifting and inspiring. My best friend agreed, so the first thing we had to do was look for a location. I wanted somewhere that would be elegant and can bring my vision to light. Milk River was a restaurant I've been to before and I loved everything about it from the space, food and vibe. I called and I spoke to the event manager named Megan, I told her my idea, she loved it and July 19th was reserved for CIY very first brunch.
Simply YOUnique Productions came up with many ideas and I loved them all. We decided on Tiffany blue as one of the colors for the decor. I wanted to be surprised so I just let them come up with the final ideas for the decors. I trusted them and I knew for a fact they would make my vision come to life. Fliers were made and everything was in action. As soon as I announced the event, tickets were being sold ( we decided to create an event on eventbrite.com to make it easier for people to purchase their tickets). I was excited and I just knew it was going to be a phenomenal event.
The morning of the event I was nervous but I knew once I saw everyone I would be just fine. As soon as I walked in Milk River I was speechless, Simply YOUnique productions turned the place into something magical. It was so many details into the decors and that's what made it special. From tiaras on each tables, to books covered in nice wrapping papers, flowers, there was even an old school typewriter that added a nice touch to every single details of the decor. I loved it and I couldn't wait until my gust arrived. Shortly My confident queens started coming through the door and each and every one of them loved how everything looked. It made me feel as if we were in a magical castle sitting at our throne.
Milk River had designed a Prefix meal for us with different meals which included an appetizer, a main course and a choice of sangria/mimosa. As everyone ordered there meal, I said a few words on the mic and afterwards told everyone to introduce themselves to each other. I really wanted everyone to be at ease and comfortable. I had a guest speaker Bianca Cain which spoke about her organization "Women under one roof". Her speech was very uplifting reminding us that we are Gems and destined for greatness. Everyone truly enjoyed her speech and it was amazing having her there.

We cried, we laughed, we were inspired, we uplifted each other. I also had everyone say "I am A Queen Because____" and everyone had some amazing responses such as "because I am a mother, I am strong, I am in love with myself, I am fearless. I answered because "I am Confident", the one that touched me the most was my mother response when she said "I am a Queen because I have you" which instantly made me cry. Everyone answer was simply amazing.
Everyone enjoyed their food, the music was on point, good vibes with just amazing queens in one place.The photographer was snapping pictures to capture amazing memories. I held back tears a few times because a few years ago I didn't know what I was destined to do with my life. I knew I wanted to be someone great but never did I imagine of being someone motivation and be someone to help others know their worth, find their beauty and most of all their confidence.
Each and everyday Iam thankful for "Confidence is You" and the fact Iam able to bring amazing queens together to realize that they matter and they are worth just like the Queen besides then. We live in a world where we are judge by our hair and put down because we can't do what a man does. It's time to change all of that and come together with love instead of breaking each other down. We may not all have the same blood but we are sisters. From beginning to end it was an amazing event and Iam so proud of myself and those who helped me put this together. I can't wait for the next one schedule for the end of 2014. My Confident dolls always follow your heart and remember an idea is the first step to a dream come true.
