There are basic building blocks in order to have a well-rounded closet; you know the timeless pieces that you can create 101 looks with. In this post we will cover the most timeless and basic items that every woman must have in their closet. Keep in mind that these are investment pieces, meaning you shouldn’t be afraid to splurge on certain items because with the right TLC (tender love & care) they’ll last you years…maybe even decades! So lets get started! These are in no particular order.
The Pencil Skirt
Knee-length pencil skirts are one of the most flattering pieces a woman can own because even though they are form fitting, they look good on every body type. Not just that, but pencil skirts are also very versatile, you can dress them up or down. Start off with a black pencil skirt (for it’s versatility) then work your way up the color spectrum.
Chambray Shirt
Now I know you may be thinking“Chambray shirt? That’s a wardrobe staple?” Believe it or not, it actually is. The best part about a chambray shirt is that it is super versatile (you’ll be hearing the word versatile a lot). This one piece can expand and remix your wardrobe in a magnitude of ways. Pair it with a pair of jeans for, wear as a cover up for a tank top; you can even pair it with a chiffon maxi skirt. Not to mention it’s not denim! Meaning that it is very lightweight and easy to move in. If you don’t have one, pick up one now because the chambray shirt is not just a trend anymore.
Skinny Jeans
This item is a no brainer: Skinny Jeans. To think that years ago many believed that skinny jeans were just a passing fad. Well boy were we wrong because this sleek cut of jeans go with absolutely everything! Pair them with a pair of sneakers and you’re ready to go and run errands change those sneakers to a nice pair of pumps and you’re ready for a Girls Night Out. It is hard to restrict yourself to just one wash because they all serve a purpose but you should at least have one pair of each wash: dark wash, light wash, distressed, black, & white (trust me, white jeans aren’t as bad as the fashion rules make them).”
Nude Pumps
While black pumps will always be timeless, I wanted to bring to surface another important pair: Nude Pumps. Every woman needs at least one pair of nude pumps in her closet. Not only do they work with just about everything, but nude pumps also elongate your legs.
Tote Bag
The tote bag is timeless piece that can take you from professional to casual in a heartbeat. It’s large enough to carry all your essentials and tailored to make any outfit look sleek. If you are purchasing your first tote, gear towards neutral tones (blacks, browns, creams, etc.). While the apple green Michael Kors tote may be tempting, it is important to remember that the black tote is more versatile for any and every situation. After you have you go to tote, have fun with colors.
Blazer
This item doesn’t need much explanation. If your outfit were an ice cream sundae, the blazer would be the whip cream, cherry, and sprinkles! The blazer can make any outfit look sleek and professional. Whether you have a lunch date or are going to a meeting, the blazer will have you covered. Start off with the basic black blazer then build your collection by exploring colors.
White Tee
A white tee should be an essential part of every woman’s wardrobe. It is extremely versatile; you can pair it with a pair of your favorite jeans or even dress it up with a pencil skirt. The white tee allows you to accomplish a clean and simple look while looking fab.
Ballet Flats
With every pair of high heels there are a pair of flats. Flats are definitely a very, very very, very, did I say VERY important item for your wardrobe. Not only are they pillows for aching feet but they are stylish. There are a magnitude of styles and colors to choose from and they are perfect for school, work, traveling, errands, and everything in between. So step aside penny loafers and tennis shoes, who says you have to compromise style for comfort?
Watch
While many of us may not wear a wristwatch yet alone check the time on it, believe it or not, it is a timeless accessory to have in wardrobe. Think about it, a wristwatch can complete an entire look. Weather you’re dressed casually, professionally, or prepped for a night on the town, this versatile piece is minimal yet stylish. It also adds a bonus to the type of person you are, while pulling out your phone may be convenient, wearing a wristwatch shows others that you care about time, and have good time management. This is definitely an investment piece, but you can also find stylish watches for reasonable prices.
Little Black Dress
This list would not be complete without the Little Black Dress (LBD). This is a closet classic! A go to item for special occasions, the LBD is a must have for your wardrobe. The secret to choosing a little black dress is to make sure your dress is both classy and sexy. Whether you’re going to a wedding or a Christmas party, the Little Black Dress will never fail you.
White Button Up Shirt
A white button up looks good with everything, it is the most versatile because it can either be worn casually with a pair of jeans or dressed up with a pencil skirt. Whether it’s cotton or chiffon, the white button up is a classic wardrobe stable.
Clutch
Clutches are great way to add spice to your look all while keeping your keys, bankcards, and makeup in tact. No longer confined to just nightlife, clutches are not only stylish but very compact. Sometimes when you go out you don’t want to lug your tote bag with you, the clutch is smaller than a tote and larger than a wallet meaning it can hold everything you NEED! Not to mention they come in a variety of styles and colors.
Statement Necklace
Statement necklaces happen to be a major wardrobe must have. It is the simplest way to add oomph to any and every look. It can dress up a t-shirt and jeans and complete the look of a sleek blazer. Not to mention they are also a conversation piece.
Cardigan
Cardigans are great for layering and can easily transform from casual to dressy. And the best part is that they come in many styles and colors: oversized, draped, cropped, etc. You have the freedom to choose whatever style fits your personal style.
Heeled Sandals
Last but not least, Heeled Sandals. Heeled sandals are trans-seasonal and very versatile. You can wear them casually with a pair of jeans or pair them with a form fitting dress. It is very helpful that they come in different styles and sizes to accommodate your fashion needs, and once you grab a pair you will not want to give them away. They add definition to your legs and offer variation for when you don’t feel like wearing a pump.
Always remember that no matter what you wear you are always beautiful, it’s not about what you wear but how you rock it! And everyone knows that the #1 accessory is CONFIDENCE. So when shopping and trying these items don’t forget to exude confidence. I hope you enjoyed the list, and if you have any other fashion staples that weren’t mentioned, feel free to comment below and share them. Happy Shopping and Stay Beautiful. Confidence is You!
